  1. How important is it for us to believe that Isaiah was the sole author of the book of Isaiah?
  2. How do you think God fulfills his words from Isaiah today?
  3. How does God’s promise to restore and redeem his people apply to us today?
  4. Why do you think Isaiah uses the concept of servant so often in his book?
  5. What is the significance of marriage being used to represent the relationship of God and Isaiah?

Class Activities

  1. Divide the class into small groups and assign one of the suggestions for the identity of the servant in Isaiah. Have the groups identify the verses that support their particular selection. Conclude by reading and discussing the verses with the entire class. Class time allowed: 20 minutes.
  2. Ask the students to evaluate the sins of our contemporary society on the basis of the sins of Israel as found in Isaiah 56:9–57:21.
