38. Jude and Second Peter

Questions for Research and Discussion

  1. Who were the intruders that are in view in Jude? Give the various options and choose the one that seems most probable.
  2. Jude 14–15 is unique in the NT because it directly quotes a noncanonical source. Does this change the way that the quoted source should be thought of with regard to inspiration?
  3. Given that Jude and 2 Peter both had difficult times making it into the canon, does this affect their value in any way? Why or why not?
  4. Can we identify the false teachers in 2 Peter with any clarity? If so, are they similar to any of the other opponents that we know about in the NT?
  5. Discuss the eschatological vision of 2 Peter. Is this vision similar to that of the Synoptic Gospels? How does it compare to that of the undisputed Pauline epistles?
