Questions for Research and Discussion
- What do you make of the discussion of the possibility of Q as a “gospel” in the chapter?
- If you were to isolate your knowledge of Jesus only to what is available in Q, what would you know about him? What sort of picture would be painted? Would he resemble the Jesus as portrayed in the Synoptics or in the Fourth Gospel?
- Is it possible that Q never existed as a written document? If so, how might this change the way we think about it, the Synoptic Problem, and the Gospel tradition in general?
- Describe and evaluate the role that Kloppenborg has played in Q studies.
- Is the word “gospel” appropriate to attach to Q? Why or why not?
