About

One girl. One dress. One year. For freedom.

When sixteen-year-old Bethany Winz learned about the millions of men, women, and children around the world trapped in slavery, her stomach churned. How can anyone do that to another human being? she wondered. And why aren't we doing something?

This is the story of Bethany's "something."

Journey with her as she wears the same black dress every day for a year to focus attention on the lack of choices people in modern-day slavery face and raise money to help end human trafficking. As Bethany works to bring freedom to people worldwide, she'll discover how much she too needs freedom. You'll be inspired not only to change the world in your own way but also to experience the life-changing freedom of God's irrepressible love.

"Bethany is part of a brave new generation of leaders following Jesus as they engage with some of the world's most difficult issues--and most vulnerable people. I encourage you to listen to her creative and courageous voice inviting others on a journey to freedom!"--Jennifer Roemhildt Tunehag, cofounder and core team member, European Freedom Network Global Human Trafficking Task Force, World Evangelical Alliance
"Raw, witty, and unafraid, One Dress. One Year. is a primer on moving from passion to action that is courageously honest about the inevitable stops at disillusioned and disheartened along the way. This book is a must-read for any young person passionate about justice but unsure where to begin--or if their efforts will even matter."--Jim Martin, vice president of spiritual formation, International Justice Mission; author of The Just Church

"As much as the world needs people with a passion for freedom, it may need the other gift Bethany Winz offers here even more: vulnerability, a heart that is open to God and others. Bethany is part of a brave new generation of leaders following Jesus as they engage with some of the world's most difficult issues--and most vulnerable people. I encourage you to listen to her creative and courageous voice inviting others on a journey to freedom!"

"They say, 'Clothes make a person.' Really? How about the same dress worn forever...or in college time, for a whole year. I'm not sure that clothes make a person but Bethany allowed a single dress to talk for her. And what a single dress said over and over and over and over was: humans matter. I don't know that I care enough about a single issue to wear the same thing for a year to make the point. But Bethany does. This book will introduce you to a real person who cares. Listen to her dress. It has a lot to say."

Dan Boone, president, Trevecca Nazarene University

"Love is God's call to us: demonstrating compassion and passion for those in need, speaking out and taking action, giving generously and sacrificially. All of these evidences of God's love flow from Bethany Winz in her commitment to address the abomination of human slavery in a simple but sacrificial choice: to wear one dress for one year. You will love her strong voice and gentle spirit, her honesty and her humor, her perseverance. Your heart will be enlarged and your ways to love will be expanded."

Judy Douglass, writer, speaker, encourager, Women's Resources, Cru

"Bethany's long obedience in the struggle for freedom is both endearing and inspiring. Raw, witty, and unafraid, One Dress. One Year. is a primer on moving from passion to action that is courageously honest about the inevitable stops at disillusioned and disheartened along the way. This book is a must-read for any young person passionate about justice, but unsure where to begin--or if their efforts will even matter."
