Chapter

22. Hebrews and James

Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think the author of Hebrews made a case for the superiority of Christ by comparing him with prophets, angels, Moses, and Aaron?
  2. What evidence do we have that the Christian church today needs to reaffirm the courageous Christian faith of former days?
  3. Does the book of Hebrews support the position that the Old Testament is inferior to the New Testament?
  4. Why do you think that the author of James places so much emphasis on good works?

Assignment Ideas / Class Activities

  1. Break the class into groups of five to seven students. Present this problem for them to discuss: If the author of Hebrews were writing the book today, whom might he use to show that Christ is superior? After fifteen minutes of discussion, lead a feedback session for the entire class.
  2. Break the class into groups of three to six students. Have the groups discuss the need to stand firm in Christ in the midst of difficulties. Have personal examples serve as the basis for the sharing.
  3. Assign a group to study worldliness in the church as treated in James. Have the group develop a set of criteria for assessing worldliness in the church today based on James.
