Bavinck by James Eglinton named a winner in The Gospel Coalition 2020 Book Awards

Ada, Mich. (December 1, 2020)— Baker Academic is pleased to announce that Bavinck: A Critical Biography by James Eglinton has been honored by The Gospel Coalition in the History & Biography Category for the 2020 Book Awards.

In its November 30 announcement, The Gospel Coalition said "Each year our editors, along with dozens of key contributors, review the nominations from Christian publishers using the following fourfold criteria: offers gospel-centered argument and application; includes faithful and foundational use of Scripture, both Old Testament and New Testament; fosters spiritual discernment of contemporary trials and trends; and encourages efforts to unite and renew the church."

James Eglinton is widely considered to be at the forefront of contemporary interest in Bavinck's life and thought. After spending considerable time in the Netherlands researching Bavinck, Eglinton brings to light a wealth of new insights and previously unpublished documents to offer a definitive biography of this renowned Reformed thinker.

The book follows the course of Bavinck's life in a period of dramatic social change, identifying him as an orthodox Calvinist challenged with finding his feet in late modern culture. Based on extensive archival research, this critical biography presents numerous significant and previously ignored or unknown aspects of Bavinck's person and life story.

"This honor is well deserved. James Eglinton's biography is masterful—an informative and engrossing distillation of Bavinck's life and work. It will surely remain an essential resource on Bavinck for years to come."—R. David Nelson, Ph.D., senior acquisitions editor, Baker Academic & Brazos Press
