Janette Oke Named Recipient of ACFW Lifetime Achievement Award

American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) recently announced that Janette Oke is the recipient of their 2016 lifetime achievement award. Oke will be honored at a gala award dinner in Nashville on August 27 during ACFW’s annual conference. ACFW is a professional organization seeking to empower Christian novelists by helping to inspire and guide them through the writing and publishing process.

Bestselling author Janette Oke is celebrated across the world for her significant contribution to the Christian book industry. She is credited with launching the modern era of inspirational fiction with the publication of her first novel, Love Comes Softly, in 1979. She is the author of over seventy books, and her novels have sold more than thirty million copies. She is the recipient of the ECPA President’s Award, the CBA Life Impact Award, the Gold Medallion, and the Christy Award. Several of her books have been turned into Hallmark movies or television series. Janette and her husband, Edward, live in Alberta, Canada.

“Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly series opened untold opportunities for faith-based novels,” said ACFW CEO Colleen Coble. “Would any of us who write for that market be writing today if not for the impact of her novels?”

David Horton, editorial vice president of Bethany House Publishers, says of Oke, “Janette’s contribution to Christian publishing is hard to overestimate; for millions of readers, her novels epitomize Christian fiction. Even more impressive is her humility and her gracious, generous spirit. My colleagues and I truly enjoy working with her.”
